Ruby on Rails Outreach Workshop for Women, 9/25-26

This location is shown only to members

Friday Sept 25th, 6-9pm (REQUIRED): software install fest
Saturday Sept 26th:
9:30am-4pm: workshop (lunch provided).
5pm: after-party for volunteers & attendees, location TBA

This workshop is intended to reach out to women who are new to Ruby and Rails. To register, you must identify as a woman. Men, you are welcome to come if you find a woman who wants to learn Ruby and Rails who will register and bring you as a guest.

In this workshop, we'll take you through building a complete web application using Ruby on Rails. By the end of the workshop, you'll have an application on the internet that connects to a database and reads and writes information. We'll meet up Friday evening to install all of the software you need, and then spend Saturday learning and writing code.

Total programming novices, system administrators, developers in other languages, and folks who attended our first workshop are all welcome. We'll have 5-7 different classes separated by experience level. Each participant needs to bring their own computer. Childcare and private space for nursing or pumping is available -- just let us know.

When you RSVP you'll be asked a few question about your operating system, level of experience and whether you have kids.

Many thanks to our sponsors:
* Heroku is covering complete food & drink for Friday and Saturday!
* sfCube is providing their awesome space for the event!

We are looking for additional volunteers, both folks who know Ruby on Rails to TA and people who are willing to help with logistics. Please sign up at the separate "events" for volunteering, which will be posted shortly.

If you have questions or ideas for is, the best way to get in touch is to email rubyworkshop at gmail dot com.

Wow, a door has opened and the awe-inspiring wizards with the magical touch, Susan Allen and Susan May, are the incredible women who altruistically produce a fantastic educational experience with expert instructional design for everyone who took your workshop! Visual learners could learn by seeing, auditory learners could learn by listening, and kinesthetic learners could learn by creating our first web app in RUBY! Thank you to Heroku, sfCUBE, Ilen, Cathy Window, Jennifer Abe, Mike Pope, Sean, Ricardo, Wolfram, and everyone else who taught and volunteered. Great job everyone! Thanks for putting this together!

Really great workshop. Teachers are very knowledgeable and explain things very well. We weren't able to cover the whole topics due to time limits so might need to organize time a teeny bit better next time :). Thanks a lot for all the volunteers and Heroku!
