IMPORTANT VENUE CHANGE: In order to accommodate more people for this class, Arum & Elliot has coordinated with Marko Gargenta to move the class over to Marakana - it's only a few blocks away from Onehouse. So double check the map to make sure you don't show up at the wrong place on Saturday.
Matthew Knox of RubyU will be in town this weekend and he's conducting a 4 hour Ruby on Rails class at Onehouse.net.
The class is intended to be an introduction to Ruby on Rails for web developers who want to develop an actual app, from scratch, in 4 hours, while learning the rails framework and the ruby language. At the end of the class, participants should have an release of a working application, hosted on EC2 through Heroku, and will have been exposed to most of the issues that developers face in the course of developing an application in Ruby on Rails.
Students are assumed to have installed rails, a text editor/IDE of their choice, rubygems, git, ssh key pair [1], and other software (memcached, firefox+firebug, git, some RDBMS, and possibly imagemagick).
A million thanks to Arum Ahn & Elliot Larson of Onehouse and Marko Gargenta of Marakana for workin together to host this class on such crazy short notice.
And of course, another million thanks to Matthew, who offered to teach this class during his weekend trip to San Francisco. I was fortunate to be able to attend Matthew's Rails class at Sermo and found him to be a great instructor. You can see videos of his lessons on Blip TV.
In a departure from the normally free nature of SF Ruby Meetup events, there will be a class fee of $15 which goes toward a catered lunch. Please bring your $15 in cash to class.
